On December 15, 1910, Norwegian Roald Amudsen’s party reached the South Pole. They left a note and mittens for Robert F. Scott’s party who had yet to arrive. They ate most of their sled dogs and returned home safely.
Robert F. Scott’s party had no dogs to eat and died of starvation on their way home, less than 20 miles from food.
